Chinook salmon
The Alaskan state fish, the Chinook salmon, is perhaps the most prized fish because is extensively catched by anglers in the southeastern region and the Cook Inlet areas. It is also really abundant from southeast to Yukon River. Major populations return every year to Yukon, Kuskokwim, Nushagak, Susitna, Kenai, Copper, Alsek, Taku, and Stikine rivers and their affluent. It is the largest of all Pacific salmon species, with weights that commonly exceed 30 pounds! The largest record is a 126-pound Chinook salmon taken in a fish-trap near Petersburg in 1949, while the largest sport-caught Chinook was a 97-pound fish taken in Kenai River in 1986.
Red salmon
Alaskan just love to eat red salmon! The other name for red salmon is blue-back.
Silver salmon
Silver salmons are very fighting fish! Their acrobatics make stream and saltwater fishing a truly thrilling experience!
Pink salmon
Pink salmons are pretty easy to catch because they live in huge schools. This specie of salmon is nicknamed "humpback" or "humpy" because of the distinctive hump that the male develops at pairing time.

Rainbow trout

Steelhead trout

Cutthroat trout
Cutthroat trout is very aggressive and can be found from the southeastern part of Alaska to the Prince William region in the south-central area.
Brook trout
Can be found in the southeastern area of Alaska. It is also called Brook-char.
Lake trout
Lake trout, in reality a variety of char, lives in Alaskan cold lakes and is the largest freshwater fish. Can be found in deep lakes in the Arctic coastal plain, in clear mountain lakes in the northern region, and in glacial lakes on the northern side of Chugach Range and on Kenai Peninsula.

Arctic grayling
The arctic grayling, with its spots, is instantly recognized and lives in many streams and lakes in Alaska.
Northern pike
Long and aggressive, the northern pike is a fearsome predatory of Alaskan waters.
Whitefish
Whitefish are the most common species in the northern area in Alaska. There are eight species, mostly silver-colored with large scales, fleshy dorsal, and adipose fins.
Lingcod
Lingcod, often considered one of the ugliest fish in the ocean, but also one of the most tasty, is a popular saltwater fish that is generally found between 30 and 300 feet. It is a type of greenling that can live 25 years and grow well over 70 pounds!
Salmon shark
Fishers from Gulf of Alaska have caught salmon sharks from 250 to 400 pounds and sometimes weighing even over 700 pounds!
Burbot
The burbot is an ugly fish, but its mild white flesh is considered very tasty. The burbot is the only freshwater cod in North America.
